I contracted with a shipping broker called AmeriSafe. The contract was to move my belongings from California to Texas for $2600 and for the items to arrive during a particular window of time. Amerisafe took half as a deposit ($1300) and I was to pay the movers the other $1300 upon receiving my belongings in Texas. Once my belongings were picked up, the movers (Seventh Generation) did not show up in time to meet the agreed upon delivery window and then the movers began demanding $3000 from me because my items "took up too much room" on their truck. I objected to the increase in fees. They then provided a fraudulent document from a so-called Forman, saying it was proof that I owed them $3000 cash or they would not deliver my belongings. As they held my belongings for ransom, I said I would sue them for fraud and extortion. At this, they relented and said they would accept the initial fee that I had contracted for, they then made the delivery very difficult to receive, creating a new delivery window which we had to meet in order to pick up our belongings. They demanded an additional $500 for a re-delivery fee, which I paid cash just to get my belongings back. I want to warn others about the unethical practices of this company. The blatant scam they are trying to run is absolutely ridiculous, but what is worse is that they use tactics like intimidation, guilt, screaming, yelling and insulting to get you to pay more, which has no effect on me in particular but on other more sensitive-type people and vulnerable senior citizens, these tactics may prove effective. It was a horrible experience, and I was truly shocked at the unethical behavior. I find it hard to believe these people are actually licensed to do business.
