I completed an online survey for Golf Digest in return for a "free" gift, just pay shipping. Of the three gifts offered, a watch, a memory card and a dashcam, I chose the dashcam. I payed the $5.95 shipping fee, received the dashcam, but was charged $79.95 three weeks later for this "free" gift. I called the customer support number, spoke with the agent who had a distinctly Asian accent. I relayed my disgust with the deceptive charge. She told me that on the order page that I used to pay shipping, there was a tab for "terms and conditions" which states that I agree to try the "free" dashcam for 2 weeks and either keep it or be charged for the item. Well, I had taken a screen shot of the order page that had no such terms and conditions visible that I saved on my PC. Furthermore there were no terms and conditions mentioned on either the order confirmation email or the shipping confirmation email. I discussed with the agent that the practice seemed deceptive, she apologized and offered a 50% refund of the cost which I accepted since the dashcam does seem useful. I did profusely explain to the agent that I was offered the dashcam for free and wouldn't have ordered it otherwise, but I decided to keep it for the discounted price. This seems to me to be a highly deceptive means to "hook" a customer, bill them later and hope for no complaint.
