7:30a – Received 2 missed calls on my cell phone, and 1 voicemail.
8:30a – Listened to voicemail. It was a very convincing sounding individual claiming to be Sgt. Gregory J****** from the Cobb County Sheriff Office. He stated that I had a warrant for my arrest due to failing to appear for jury duty and contempt to court. They had a very convincing script, and mentioned that I could bail out the same day if I went to the Cobb County Sheriff Office in Marietta square. The individual explained he needed to be on the line with me, to make sure I was headed to the Sheriff Office. When I got in my car and left for the Sheriff Office, I asked for the address, and without hesitation, they gave me the correct address 185 Roswell St NE. On my way, he mentioned I needed to buy bond vouchers to pay for this bind at the Sheriff Office, and walked me through how to buy them at Walmart, what I needed to buy, in which amounts, and to provide him the last 8 digits of the cards. HE instructed me to buy the ‘One’ reloadable debit cards at Walmart, for a total of $3,000. When they requested the 8 digits of the debit card numbers, I actually mentioned how this seemed very similar to a scam, and the guy mentioned that he was not asking for the CVC code, expiration dates, nor any additional personal information. After giving the numbers to him, they actually stayed on the line for a couple more minutes while I was on my way to the Sheriff office. The phone call at some point got disconnected and was not able to reach out to them again. I finally realized this was a scam once I arrived at the Sheriff Office.
