Type of a scam Online Purchase
It is a fraudulent website that offers fake puppies for sale with no chance to visit the puppy without paying a “reservation fee” to go and see one.
The website owner blames COVID precautions as a tool to avoid anyone from meeting their new family puppy. It’s heartbreaking to say the least.
We had multiple long texts conversations about this and he would not take a phone call (except the first time I called and he picked up and we lost connection shortly after I introduced myself).
We were visiting friends not far from his town of Modesto CA and were only a 90 minute drive away. He said he would lose his license for COVID protocols (whatever that means), even though it’s “as simple as switching over the paperwork.”
I asked for some videos of the two pups we were considering and he emailed them (from a misspelled email name). Two very cute videos with no people in it, just the pups. My wife and I were so excited to purchase one. At the time I didn’t know puppy scams were a thing so I did further research on it before buying.
He only offers to ship the puppy via United Airlines PetSafe program, which has been discontinued since July 2020. I offered to fly or drive up there (about a 5 hour drive) and he refused without taking a reservation fee to VISIT and pick out a puppy.
Additionally, the images on his website of the 4 Shiba Inu parents for his litters were poorly photoshopped and ripped from the internet. Name tags clearly blurred out off the necks of the dogs, but the best identifier of this was that he used 4 famous dogs that were used in memes. I follow Shiba Inu groups and I recognized them as soon as I saw it.
I’ve attached the discovery questions in our text conversation for reference.
At the end of our conversation when he realized I wasn’t buying his story he said to look elsewhere. I said, yeah because it’s a scam.
He said “you’re welcome.”
