My girlfriend and I were thinking about adding a new family member, so she began looking at kittens online. I mentioned British shorthairs to her, and thanks to Google SEO, one of the the first websites that pops up is shorthairkittens.com. She started looking at the kittens on the website and showing me pictures of them. She then submitted a contact form and was contacted shortly after via text message from a Colorado phone number. This was the same phone number that you could find at the top of the contact form.

When you look around the website everything looks good until you start clicking around. None of the social links work, the phone button shows a different number that does not work. The email button shows a different email than the gmail address listed on the contact form. The testimonials have images that can be found elsewhere on Google. Fishy.

Once the scammer made contact and confirmed some simple info they began asking questions. They waste your time by running you through the whole wellness check and asking you all sorts of questions about your environment and things like that. Basically trying to act like a real breeder and make sure the cat is going to a loving home, when in reality it's just a scammer acting the part. After my girlfriend got past all of the questions they then began discussing payment and the only two methods of payment that they would accept were Apple Pay or Zelle and as soon as she mentioned that to me that was a huge red flag. A legitimate breeder running a business that can only accept Zelle or Apple Pay? Weird. I then asked them if they could send a video of the kitten and I did not receive a response.

Obviously, if they really had the kitten and were asking for payment they would be able to easily send you a video of the cat you are about to pay $1000 + $200 shipping for. Also, a legitimate breeder wi Just a big waste of time submitting the contact form and answering all the questions strictly so they can lure you in. Thankfully we were only scammed out of a bit time and we did not send the scammer the $1200. Disgusting. Please do NOT fall for this.

With a bit of research on social media you can easily find REAL breeders, they do things much differently and you can clearly tell that they are legit. Videos, live streams, detailed testimonials and reviews from real people, etc. They are also much more expensive than the prices listed on shorthairkitten.com, probably a large reason why people may fall victim to this. You can expect to pay upwards of $2,000 for a British Shorthair kitten. So given that information, the pricing is also a dead giveaway.

Thank you so much for your post. Had I not read it this morning, I would’ve been the next victim of shorthairkitten.com. I spoke with Mark Morgan this morning. He explained the kitten could be flown to our local airport tomorrow for a $200 transport fee. I asked how it was possible to fly a cat for $200. Suddenly, our call was disconnected. I called back and there was no answer. I eventually reached him again and after our discussion he would text me informational questions to answer. I asked if I could FaceTime with the animal to see him and he reported he only had a laptop and that wouldn’t be possible. I answered the questions he sent and asked for the Zelle email address along with his information. Both the name and the email address differed from the website and what he told me. I got suspicious and decided to do a search of reviews for this “cattery”. I came across your review and although I was disappointed to learn of your experience, I was so relieved I hadn’t sent any money to him. Eventually he started calling and texting when my Zelle payment wasn’t sent. I’ve since blocked him. Now I’m on to find a reputable breeder. Thanks again. I hope you guys find a great kitty.

Was scammed out of $1200 for a kitten that didn’t exist.

I paid through Apple Cash connected to my First Citizens Bank Account. I reported them to the local government so at least someone else could avoid my circumstances.

Even with proof of fraud, I was issued no refund from Apple Cash or First Citizens bank. Also, their website is still up and running. They have the same picture of the kitten I tried to adopt 3/2022 on their website.

Nobody has obviously done anything about it and someone needs to do something. I have more proof of transactions via screenshots if you need them.

My girlfriend and I almost fell victim to the same scam. Thankfully I was able to do some digging and took a good look at the site and found this review as well as a few others. I'm not sure why This site is still up but it looks like it was created sometime in February, it definitely needs to be taken down. Thank you for your review, I will be sure to leave my own.

Website states that they are a small cattery and sell British Shorthair and American Shorthair kittens/cats. States they can ship them to the buyer and they are complete with veterinary exams, vaccines, etc with a one year health guarantee. I saw a picture of a 14 week old kitten named Jenny I liked for 1200.00. They stated I had to put a 600 deposit down via Apple Pay to a number they sent me and then I was to pay the remainder when I pick her up from the airport. They requested I pay through Apple Pay or Zelle through phone number they sent to me. My credit card I gave them did not work when they tried to run it. After I paid the deposit via Apple Pay that was linked to my bank card, they were supposed to get her registered to fly and vet checked and they would send me all the information. She was supposed to be shipped 3 days later. They never contacted me and I could not get a response from texting, emailing or calling. After I finally got in touch with them through online live chat, they said this was unforeseen and she needed an electronic crate per the veterinarian because it will keep her warm and safe during the flight here to NC. Even though they had all my info, I was not happy about no one telling me this before. I called and talked to a man calling himself Mac or Max and he said since the crates are expensive, I would have to pay the other 600 and nothing more in order for Jenny to be shipped out in a couple days which was Saturday, 3-13-22. And I would have to send back the electronic crate once I get Jenny. This person sounded like a one from Asian descent. They requested I send the payment to another alternative number. After I reluctantly paid this, they were supposed to send me a contract electronically with all the information I needed to complete the sale. Saturday came and I heard nothing. I tried numerous times calling, texting and emailing with no response. Not surprisingly, I felt duped and was understandably upset. They did not respond to me until 3-14-22, via text stating that there was no flights and she would be shipped out Monday, 3-15-22. I demanded a full refund and they stated that they would issue a refund via Apple Pay. And I never received it. I tried contacting them every way possible and nothing. British Shorthair cats are not easy to find and I was new to the pure breed online option. I was so excited to get a British Shorthair for the past 20 years and perhaps I was very naive about the situation because they managed to to scam me out of 1200 for a kitten that was never sent. I may not get my money back, but that website has to be taken down from the internet so they cannot do this to someone else. They have also charged my credit card for several small to large purchases for random services to other companies . I have filed complaints to every organization that I could find. If this isn't a scam, I don't know what is.
