I was looking to adopt a Siberian kitten. I came across the scammer’s website. I was hesitant at first and didn’t believe it. I got in touch with the “breeder” Diaz Swartz. He first emailed me with pictures of the cat and then later texted me that he did so. He told me the kitten was $650 plus shipping which was $250 (On the website shipping was only $200). I know that scams exist so I didn’t give him the $900 immediately. I asked him to send me a video of my name and the kitten to make sure she was real and it wasn’t an old video, etc. He said he was “out of Denver, CO for work and his son and daughter would email me.” He/They did, and that’s when I messed up. I decided that maybe it wasn’t a scam and went in with the payment. I paid him through Cashapp and the tag he gave me was “$BriGlock3” I talked to him and he reassured me that he’d refund me if anything went wrong and that he wasn’t scammer. He said he was 58 and fighting cancer and had no reason to scam someone for wanting an animal for their own happiness. I paid him, and after that, it just got worse. We settled a date for me to pick up the kitten from the airport (I live states away and there’s no Siberian kittens in my area so I had no choice but to look for a breeder online. Once the day came, he said the kitten was taken to the airport and I received an email from “Seal Pet Express” stating that I needed to confirm my information by replying to the email, which I did, and then they responded saying “thank you for confirming” and they “proceeded.” I later received an email saying I needed to pay rent $1,500 for a thermal crate in order for the kitten (Nilla) to be shipped and it would be refunded when she arrived. I was confused and felt concerned. I contacted the breeder and asked him why he didn’t pay for the crate and why I needed to pay. He said that they would give him the ventilated crate he got for Nilla back and that she had to be shipped in the thermal crate. I told him that I didn’t the money to do so. I emailed Seal Pet Express as well. All they said is that I had to pay and it was my responsibility, not the breeder’s. I found that ignorant. I was also sort of offended. As the buyer, I adopted this kitten and was required to take care of her and pick her up..Not ship her. That was the breeder’s responsibility. They emotionally got to me by saying if I didn’t pay she would be put in pet abandonment and the breeder said “I’d be the one charged in court not him.” I literally couldn’t pay since I didn’t have the funds. He later said he could pay $1,000 as long as I paid $500 and that I would refund him the 1,000 once she got here. That got me to trust him more because he seemed like he actually cared and wanted me to have the kitten. We did that and he gave me his “colleague’s PayPal” (Her PayPal was Nikita Canalin) since I couldn’t send him any more money through cashap. and then I had to pay for fees for the kitten being held since I couldn’t pay for the crate before and she had to stay at the airport for “a week.” It was $470. I told the breeder and he asked me if I had $150 extra so he could pay for her to get vet checked. I said no because I didn’t. But I had enough to at least do $500. He said he’d pay me back. Me being stupid, I sent it and the kitten never came. He got me to send it to another “colleague” on PayPal by the name of Ron Finney. The company stopped emailing me. My friend decided to help me see if he’d say Nilla is available or not by getting in touch from the website the same as I did. He sent the same exact thing and said she was available and still 12 weeks old. He then texted me that he’d refund me and sell the kitten to someone else. That made me laugh in disbelief..I payed $1,900 for a kitten just for my own emotional and mental health. Just to have another animal. A friend. And in return, I got scammed nearly $2,000. Cash app couldn’t help me get my money back. PayPal’s dispute policy only works with a business payment. Since the breeder told me I had to send it as “family and friends” or he’d refund me, that’s what I did. Another mistake I should’ve never made. Because it wasn’t a business payment, I now can’t file a dispute against the payments. The only choice I had was to file it as an unauthorized payment. PayPal wouldn’t refund me since they said it wasn’t an unauthorized charge and wouldn’t help me. I’ve lost $1,900 in fraudulent charges and a pet scam.
