What happened

I received an offer in regards to a job offer. Seemed very formal-SK Pharma. The communication started and they wanted for me to contact a Michael Beasley vie skype: So I got in touch with him, they sent me a writing test for the position. It was a link they sent and the link was not live by the way- I had to copy and past the url on the browser. I had all the communication via skuype but when I blocked this guy, everything was deleted. They told me I needed a lot of equipment-very expensive one- and software for work. I asked about how because I could not afford that. They said they were going to send me an electronic check and let me know what vendors to get the equipment from. Then he said that charity and educational institutions funded them for these type of resources. A pharmaceutical company though charity? red flag. So they send me the Offer letter and I signed, sent my personal info: address, phone, SS# , DL, etc. We were meeting today at 10 am via skype, I did. This person told me that I was going to receive an e-check to purchase the equipment. They sent me a check from an email account that is not from a company and the check has the name of a woman and no company either. They wanted for me to cash it and notify them. I did not like this at all and I questioned him and his credentials and he never responded anymore. Then I went to linkedIn and checked out the company and the name of this guy within the employee list, he dose not exist. Sent a message to the HR person and she barely replied but she said she does not know him. This is a total scam. I think they want for people to deposit the checks and then make us deposit them somewhere else and steal our money. This is very serious. Now i face the possibility of identity theft too. It is so unfair that the whole society is struggling economically, pandemic and all, we are just trying to make a living and these thieves steal our peace.

I questioned them because the check is from an individual and the email has no company logo. I questioned the guy and he stopped communicating.
