A George Beckett called from the Loyalty Department of Cox Cable to help me lower my bill through their loyalty program. After we settled on the discount he asked how I was going to pay and I responded by check as always. When he asked for the check # I told him I didn't have it in front of me. He then proceeded to have me send a check that day to PO Box 7169 Jersey City, NJ 07307 and make it payable to Smart Move Service. He will call the following day to get the check number and give me the confirmation for the discount good for 2 years.

I was sceptical from the beginning since he called me, however listened as I thought maybe COX had started a new program of reaching out to long-time customers in order to keep them. He knew my name, address and the amount of my Dec bill. He also gave me his name and number and said to call in the future if I had any concerns as he was assigned to our account. When he gave the Jersey address and then the payable name I was highly on alert. Also realized when I hung up the 402 area code for the phone didn't go with the Jersey address. After confirming with COX no such program existed, I decided to report the account to avoid anyone being taken. If I would have been paying by credit card, it's certain he would have made off with the money.
