I purchased an echo dot. And not realizing it I searched Amazon Alexa app in google search instead of searching in google play store as I should. Anyway a website came up that "looked" like an amazon website to help hook up my echo dot. So I was processing thru all questions and then the website said they were having troubles connecting my device and I would be getting a call from a tech. Sure enough I did within seconds. The guy acts like he is going to help me connect my device to my phone. And then proceeds to say it will cost. $99.for a 2 year activation fee or a $199. For a lifetime activation fee. Luckily I did not fall for it. I told the guy "no where on my manual instructions does it say it will cost to activate." I also know friends who have them and never been told there is an activation fee. The guy hung up. I know he was trying to get my cc number. I then went back to the website...and did their "online chat"...& captured a picture of another conversation to see if they would say yes. This time the cost was different.
