I recently posted a vehicle on craigslist. Similar to the other reports I received a text from an out-of-state number (218-261-7928) asking if the vehicle was still available. When I said yes it was available they asked if I could get the history report from smartvehiclereport.com. What flagged me that something was off was in the first message they gave the make and model (for the truck) and in the second message they said "cars". A quick google search lead me to see it was a scam. I responded and told them "no, craigslist advises against this because its a scam". Appreciate others sharing what happened.

I listed my car on Craigslist in Idaho and was contacted by a San Francisco, CA number asking me to get a car history report from a website I didn't recognize. I looked it up on Google to see if it was legit and saw the articles on a new scam. I asked the person why that specific website and they never answered back.

On 12/15/2020 I placed an advertising to sell my 2015 audi Q5. I received a text asking if the vehicle was still available and I said that it is. The then asked me to get a vehicle history at smartvehiclereport.com. I looked up scams and saw this scam listed on your website. Wanted to report this cell phone & website as a possible scammer.

Texted by 13854550137. I have a car posted on Craigslist. First I was asked if I would take a check and make sure it cast before they picked up the car...of course you NO. Then asked if I could pull a report for them for smart vehicle report.com. This is the second time another person is called and asked for audit Vin. Comm which again is a scam place. This is getting ridiculous

Listed my car on Craigslist and within hours I got contacted for a scam. Didn't know about it and thought it was similar to Carfax. Person stopped talking right after.

As reported by others I, too, posted an add of craigslist selling my Jeep Cherokee. I received a text message the same day from someone asking if the car was still for sale. When I responded yes, they sent me a link to www.smartvehiclereport.com asking if I would use the link to get a VIN report. I had never heard of that website but a quick search (initially) did not seem to indicate any issues, however, after having (ignorantly) acquiring the report (which was in fact accurate) I called the phone number provided by my bank as part of the transaction. It was a Google Voice number with a generic recording. That’s when I found out it was a scam.
