My sister's facebook account got hacked by someone who is truly doing a great job at scamming others. "She" contacted me through messenger under my name which has not been linked to a facebook account for several years. I do still use the messenger app to keep in touch with family. She asked me for a loan for $300 to be repaid the next day. I was only fooled because this scammer called me via video chat through messenger and when we connected I could see my sister looking back at me and actually moving, It was not a photo. The video cut off briefly and I had no reason to suspect it wasn't her on the video chat. Well I sent her the $300 to the paypal email address provided by her, him or them. When they received it they asked for more and that is when I called her via video chat and once she answered I could see she was making the same facial expressions and movement as the first video chat and I immediately called her home phone and she confirmed it was not her. She proceeded to explain how she was called via video chat through messenger by whom she believed was her coworker who had also been hacked. She was connected for 16 seconds and the video ended. That is how they recorded her in order to make me believe it was her asking me for the loan. I sobbed all day after finding out I was just scammed out of my utilities money. Paypal told me nothing could be done because it was sent as Friends and Family. I told them the email address used for this scam needs to be blocked and the money reversed back to me which they claimed they cannot do. They told me all they could do is message them and ask them to refund me. .It has also been difficult to reach Facebook's customer service. They should be responsible for getting my funds back after failing to protect not only my sister but her co-worker who was also hacked and used to deceive and hack into my sister's account. I also went to the precinct here in N.Y. and filed a report and filled out a report on the IC3 website. My sister contacted Facebook which helped her recover her account after this ordeal. I am left wondering if I will recover my money.
