I just got a random call to my phone claiming I had received a $9,000 grant, the lady asked me to verify my zip code & proceeded to tell me that I’ve been randomly picked in Louisiana to receive grant money for a few different reasons that I can’t remember, she asked me how would I like to receive my payment, she said I could get the money in cash through money gram, western union, or a few other places or have it directly deposited into my bank account. She then told me my “grant confirmation #” & told me to call ###-###-#### to give them the grant confirmation number. That threw up a red flag but I called the number which popped up as a Washington, DC area code but the person did not answer the phone it went to a google voicemail. A minute or so later the number called me back & I had told them the confirmation number the lady had gave me & the woman who was on the phone sounded like the exact same woman I had talked to on the first phone call. She had said since it was such a large amount of money it would be on sent on 3 different transactions each in the form of $3,000 totaling up to $9,000. She told me I’d need a pen & paper to write down my reference numbers. She said in order to receive the money I needed to go to a dollar store, CVS, Rite Ade, Etc. to buy a registration card to receive the grant money so I could pick it up from money gram. She said it would cost me $200 to pay for the card that would be refunded back to me once the grant money was processed & asked me how long would it take me to get to the store that she would stay on the phone with me to walk me through the whole process on which card to get and how to activate it. That’s when I hung up & blocked the number. Right after I hung up I got 2 more phone calls both from another 985-774 phone number I’m guessing the same person who had called me the first time. I’m not sure how they got my phone number or knew my name but I’m glad I knew how to watch out for scams.
