Therefore, we paid money for a game that cannot be played... and can be downloaded and played with a PS+ subscription, without also having to pay a one-time fee for the game download. Why is Sony selling these games, knowing they can't be played without additional paid subscription services? They are willing to sell an inoperable product to unknowing customers.
The final issue is attempting to claim a refund for the inoperable product using their customer support "refund chatbot" that claims a refund is not possible because the product was already downloaded and "used"... The only way to get around this is to get assigned a Support ID number from the chatbot, and then wait on hold on the phone with customer support to finally get issued a refund for the inoperable product that should never have been sold in the first place...
This is not how I want to spend several hours of my life:
1. Trying to figure out how to purchase and download game for my son
2. Trying to figure out how to play the game that can't be played offline
3. Trying to get a refund with "chatbot" on Sunday afternoon, being notified I must call during "business hours" the following day
4. Calling customer support and being told by automated system that I need Support ID to talk to representative
5. Going back to chatbot, getting support ID, and calling back customer support - only to wait longer on hold
6. Finally getting representative on the phone to issue a refund as a "one-time exception" to Sony's refund policy - I clarified that if we ever make this mistake again, Sony will not issue a refund because the game had been downloaded and "used"... which is ironic, because they made it very clear that it could not actually be "used" without an additional PS+ subscription!
