I got a text from someone saying they found me on indeed and that I had listed skills relevant to digital marketing, which is true. They offered me a "part time job" doing "manual verification tasks". The person connected me to a contact named "Maria" who was the person I was in touch with for the month or two following. She onboarded me and guided me through the process of doing the task sets. I had to deposit money into my work account to be able to do them. At first I put in $100 to be able to start, and this was the usual. I received back earnings from my first few days and it hit my wallet, so I assumed it was the real deal. A number of days in, I get something called a lucky task, which supposedly paid out higher commissions and earnings. Thing is, It made my account balance go negative. This meant I needed to deposit more to unlock it again. At first I did, and put in $400. It unlocked, I got a couple tasks in, and then I got another lucky task, this time taking my balance to -$1100. This made me suspicious. I was out of money, so I couldn't put in more. By then I was a victim of the sunken cost fallacy, but I was nearly broke. By this point I confronted "Maria" about the scam after I did some research into other task scams, and after giving up the act, they began to berate me and insulted my family, and myself for having fallen victim to them. I feel really stupid. That was about $900. Soup.au was the url and name of the company was Soup Agency.
