I applied for a receptionist position on Linked In. A few days later, I received an email from a legitimate dr. at the practice, saying that the position had been filled, but that they had a personal assistant position that needed to be filled asap, for $1200 a week. All I had to do was send my resume to [email protected]. I sent it, and got an email back a few days later from "Gregg Sherry", stating that he wanted to interview me for the position once he got back in town. He asked for my name, address and current position. After I gave him that info, he emailed back and said he wanted to hire me, without even interviewing me or meeting me- not even a phone call. He sent me a vague, poorly formatted offer letter, with no company name- not even his name. I told him I'd "look over it" and get back to him in a few days. I called South East Psych (where I'd originally applied), and asked for the dr. that supposedly referred me to the position. The receptionist confirmed my suspicion that there was a scam going around and that they had received several calls in the past week. About a week after, "Gregg" emailed me again, saying sorry I hadn't heard from him, but that he had the flu and was in the hospital. He would be out Monday and ready to get started on work. He said he would send me a check on Tuesday for me to cash and purchase items for "less fortunates" and foster children for Thanksgiving. He also gave me his phone number, and told me to text him my phone number. I immediately looked it up, and found another person's experience with the same exact scam- verbatim.
