Spectrum Cable scam Reports & Reviews (1)

I received a voicemail regarding a promotion on my Spectrum account. I called the number back and someone told me it was a promo for 3 years and the first year needed to be paid in full. I was told that it would be a one time fee of $480 for 12 months and then $40 per month for the next 2 years. I said yes to the promotion and was charged $4.99 for an activation fee (it was immediately deducted from my credit card and said "Spectrum"). I was told that I cannot pay with my Visa card on file and have to open a Target credit card or go get a Target gift card to pay for the promotion because Spectrum and Target are doing the promo together and that was the only way to pay. That was not disclosed to me before I said yes to the promotion so I said I will not be doing either of those things so I do not want to go forward with the promotion. The person on the phone then told me I would be charged a cancellation fee to cancel the promotion of $89.99. I said I wanted a refund of $4.99 and didn't want to pay the activation fee because they didn't tell me I could only pay with Target cards. The cancellation fee was then deducted from my account of $89.99. The line disconnected and then I received a text message that said my Spectrum account was suspended because there was a balance due on my account of $480 and told me to call 1-833-412-0295 (the billing department) to resolve the issue. I then called that number and was instructed to go buy a Target gift card for $480 to pay the balance and then my services would no longer be suspended. During this time, my services weren't suspended so I figured it was a scam. I googled another Spectrum number to see if they could help. I contacted the real Spectrum and they said that the scammers hacked my email and deducted money from my credit card due to my account being on autopay (that's how the funds were immediately deducted from my account). Spectrum is refunding the fraudulent charges to my credit card. I did not end up buying the Target cards therefore wasn't scammed out of money completely. I received voicemails and text messages from the following numbers throughout this entire scam and they listed here: 1-833-412-0295, 1-540-268-0632, 1-209-439-6395, 1-602-807-7457
