Recieved a voicemail claiming to be spectrum. I have wifi thru spectrum. Voicemail said my discount was about to expire and that i needed to call them. I called. They asked me to confirm my address so i did. They said in order to keep my discounted rate i needed to pay 16 months up front. I told them it sounded like a scam and that i was going to contact bbb. He said to go ahead and call and i can just pay full price from here on out.

- Gainesville, FL, USA • Oct 23, 2024

I received a voicemail from someone from "Spectrum" claiming we were about to lose our discount and if I called back, there is another discount available. When I called back they told me they had a promotion that would half my bill from 109.98 to only $55 a month for up to 3 years. The only catch was that I had to pay for the first year up front for $660.00, then I would start getting billed $55.00 a month after that. I was then given and auth code and a number to call the "Billing Dept" to pay the $660.00. That number was 1-888-330-4471 and the auth code I was given was SPC0811. Then he proceeded to tell me that this promotion was backed by Target and that I could either sign up for a Target credit/debit card and use that to pay the $660 or I could use Target gift cards. After getting him to explain that concept to me that I was to go purchase Target gift cards totaling $660 then call that billing number and use those cards to pay the first year. The worst part is that at one point he put me on hold for a few minutes then came back and said he just ran my card on file(which come to find out in the actual Spectrum call it does tell you the last 4 of the card on file and you can make payments) for $4.99 for a sign-up fee for the promotion. Which made me receive an email from Spectrum showing that payment of $4.99. Which almost worked in making it seem legitimate. He told me I had until the next day 8PM to get this $660 paid by. I was still having a hard time wrapping my brain around this whole pay for Spectrum services with Target gift cards and I called the number on my actual Spectrum bill and spoke to someone in the billing department, and she told me it was a scam. I told her that he did charge my card on file for the $4.99 and that I now had a $4.99 credit on the account. She talked to her superior and that is when we found out about it stating the last 4 digits of the card on file in the automated system and that is how the scammer knew the last four digits of my card. I just wanted to share this as I know not everyone would have turned around and called Spectrum themselves because when they answered on the 754-663-6753 it sounds just like Spectrum's automated system. They guy also gave me his name Steven ***** and his extension is 811. I hope this helps get them stopped from paying on innocent people.

“Dear customer this voicemail is to inform you that spectrum is removing the 40% discount from your monthly bill as of today to reactivate this offer immediately please call the number shown on your caller ID thank you…”

I have received two calls from two different people now, from Paul last friday and from David today (monday), both claiming to be Spectrum employees. They told me that since I was a senior, I was eligible for a FREE modem and router that would be delivered in two days via Fed Ex and that they just needed to do a "casual" credit check first and that I just needed to make one monthly internet payment over the phone with them. He then asked for my SS#. I told him that I never give out that information over the phone. Paul then told me that they only needed to confirm the last four digits (seemed safe enough) so I complied ( Dumb me). I became suspicious the next day so I checked with my banking institution the and was told that two transactions occurred on that same day totaling approximately $400.00. What actually did come in the mail was a new cell phone (intentional mistake on their part.....hence the SCAM); no router no modem. It turns out that their intent was to have me sign for the phone with the Fed Ex person ( I was told that I absolutely needed to SIGN for it because it couldn't just be dropped off). Realizing the mistaken delivery, I would then return the phone to a FAKE Spectrum address (which in reality is most assuredly their address or P.O. box not Spectrums address) and they now are able to use a phone that my debit card has paid that which I never authorized. I contacted the Spectrum fraud dept. and they explained to me how this scam worked. My bank is now crediting my account in order to remedy this Scam.

I received a voicemail from "Spectrum Internet" of which I am a customer. The voicemail explained an offer that was about to expire. I called the number back and there was what seemed like a legitimate "Spectrum" touch-tone" menu for CS support, billing, etc. I was transferred to a representative who sounded Indian, but their English was good. They told me that to reduce my existing bill by 50% by 5-years that I would need to run the first 10 months payment through Target, the retailer. I told them that this is a scam and hung up.

Received two separate emails saying there from Spectrum that they are unable to process card on file and need to update to avoid service interruption. The first email came from this email address:[email protected] and the second one from:

[email protected]. We had gone to the Spectrum store near us and told them about it they said they would not send emails like that. Plus I pay at the self kiosk in the store. Please look into these scammers. It’s concerning

Didn’t respond or click any links in the email, since that would expose my personal confidential info.

Promotion for discounted rate for 3 years on Spectrum bills.

If one year paid upfront with Target gift cards, monthly rate would be $40.

Scammer left voicemail from phone: 206-XXX-XXXX. Offered a 50% discount by agreeing to pay $4.99 for activation fee. Scammer already knew my DISCOVER card number and used it to charge the $4.99. He did it immediately and it showed up on my Discover card. He also sent a thank you to my email address (gmail.com) for the $4.99. Next I was told to call: 833-XXX-XXXX Ext. 1 and ask for the Finance Department, and give the Activation code: SPCT XXXXX. Then they would charge $360.00 (paying the first 18 months of a 50% discount of my bill). I did not call the 2nd phone number and instead called Spectrum only to discover I was scammed.

Cable service went out and called the billing number for Spectrum. Person answered and pressured me to purchase $99 protection plan for 3 years. Gave person my credit card number and security code for charges. Hung up on person after person would not connect me to technical services. About an hour later called another number that I googled and that number connected me with a technician who helped me. Mentioned to him what happened earlier and he said SOMEONE IS SCAMMING THEIR PHONE NUMBER AND TRYING TO GATHER CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. After hanging up with i cancelled my credit card.

Spectrum promised me on November, 2022 that I will have two years of free mobile unlimited usage monthly if I buy a new cell phone from them. Now is May, 2023, they started to charge me mobile monthly usage and refuse to fulfill their promise for two years free unlimited usage. I called and asked their customer service, they said it's just miscommunication. They tricked me into buying a new phone from them, they are totally a scammer.

- Buffalo, NY, USA

Scammer stated that a new savings to Senior citizens who prescribed to Spectrum. I was to pay the April bill immediately for $198.46, subsequent bills would be the same amount, reducing my bill by $100.00 per month. I asked for his name and phone number, wanted to think about the deal, call back tomorrow. His info : S  M  (920)250-7059, Spectrum in Rochester, NY. My “radar” was raised when he said his name, he was definitely Asian! I phoned my local Spectrum office to ask if a new “Senior Reduction Program” was in place. The worker had heard similar accounts and said there were NO such offers. I will relay this story to my senior friends and I hope this scam can be STOPPED. Thank you, C M, Tonawanda, NY

- Ewa Beach, HI, USA

The scammer identified as spectrum and hung up. I tried calling back and it immediately hung up. I called spectrum and there was no report of service call, it was not their server. I blocked the number.

They used bait and switch offering a free service by mail and when you agreed to the service an email was sent to me listing the actual real continuing charges.

- West Boylston, MA, USA

This was a legitimate email from Spectrum on December 8th saying I had deactivated equipment and if I didn't return it I would be charged. When I called the customer service person said "That email went to everyone."

So had I not called to confirm I didn't have the unit I would have automatically been charged.

Sounds like Spectrum is trying to charge people by sending emails with no basis.
