An automated voicemail claiming to be Indiana Michigan Power saying they were calling "regarding a work order our field personnel have for your address" and I needed to contact them if I had my account or social security number available.

The kicker was I had received a disconnect notice from the *real* Indiana Michigan Power for late payment that was scheduled for 2/26 if they didn't receive my payment in time, and the call from the fake Indiana Michigan Power was on 2/25... So I was already expecting the possibility I'd need to follow up on the phone with my power company if the check wasn't there in time.

I thought the mention of a social security number in the voicemail was weird enough to Google the phone number before calling back, and the number wasn't for IMP.

Received a voice mail message saying they were cutting off electricity in one hour due to insufficient payments. I returned phone call. Asked for name and account number. I did give our name but not account number. He had me read off our last 3 payments shown. Put me on hold. Came back w a case number and said until it is resolved, they will still be shutting off electricity unless I paid the last 3 payments again, in which they would reimburse after case is settled. But I could tell by my online banking that the payments had all cleared and knew at that moment it was a scam. But someone who doesn’t do online banking may have easily fallen for his scam. Hoping to stop him from stealing from others, especially the elderly who may be easily scammed.

this number called 1800 906 9754 was automated telling me the business i work for's power was going to get shut off unless i paid 429.83 in the next half hour. I got the company credit card out and ready ( number told me it was my local power company). The guy on the other line said because it was a disconnect charge checks and credit cards would not surfice, i had to goto a speedway or circle k and get a money pak to pay over the phone. This did not sound right, so i googled the local electric company, and they told me they had about 15 calls today 8.20.19 already that were scams to get money.

I hope that no one falls for this, at least double check with your local utility company before proceeding.
