Sports Drug and Wren Hollow Covid test bills Beware
Then I received a bill in March for $50 to Wren Hollow Medical for the same testing. I called my insurance and asked them about the charge and they found that they had billed the insurance like 5 times and was denied. The fellow tried to call them but they put him on hold and never came back to the phone. He had me call them with him still on the call and it went to a recording.
So today I called and they were there but the person did nothing when I told her that I was calling my insurance. I went to the internet and searched wren Hollow Medical and saw all kinds of posts about the Sports lab and wren Hollow scamming for Covid test payments.
I’m wondering if the place I got it from was in cahoots with them. Idk.
Belated Billing for COVID-19 Tests
I was really confused because at that point I couldn't remember which medical appointment the billing was for. I eventually realized that the checks the insurer had sent me months earlier were to cover the cost of the testing, which I would have to pay out-of-pocket. The billing organization's phone number appears to be from the North Carolina Medical Society Employee Benefit Program when I search it on the internet, although the office operates in the US mountain time zone and is probably also in the South Jordan area like Wren Hollow Medical and the Sports Drug Testing Laboratory.
These organizations appear to have considerable problems with billing. I received multiple bills for the single COVID-19 test appointment and they came weeks and months apart. It's confusing and concerning that the charges I received took so long to resolve and I believe the medical practices of these companies verge on exploitative and unprofessional.
I made my final payment and several weeks later I received another bill for the same amount. I called the billing organization and they indicate that they processed my payment weeks after they sent me the bill (already weeks after I saw my account had been charged for the bill). I believe the charges are now appropriately fully resolved and that there will be no future billing for either of these organizations
Initial billing is an attempt to collect up and beyond what an insurance company is willing to pay. The company, in the past, refused to provide details or even ask about your insurance. After a Covid-19 test, the company is entitled to see your insurance EOB (how much did the insurance pay), but is not allowed to charge you an amount above that -- which is what they are trying to do (my opinion, in case someone wants to wordsmith me).
WREN HOLLOW MEDICAL is the latest incarnation of the illegal billing attempts. It is interesting how billing (from any of the above) is pretty (nice colors, professional layout), but provides very little useful information.
Don't pay without doing your research. Double-check with your insurance company to find out what it did pay. They can't charge you in excess of that. This bill is lower than the original- it's gone from $200 to $100 (previous billing names) -- and Wren is now charging only $50, but without explanation. Perhaps they think you'll pay without investigating.
