I am currently unemployed and have been applying many places online. I was presented about an immediate hire job offer to be a remote Retail Sales Representative for a company called SpringWorks Therapeutics. After answering a series of questions, the HR Manager wanted to proceed and I accepted. She stated that I would have my work equipment sent to my provided address and that I would be receiving a package from FedEx with materials associated with getting set up with work equipment. Two days later, I received an envelope from FedEx that had an enclosed letter and check. I informed the HR Manager that I had received the envelope and she directed me to send her pictures of the envelope's contents and deposit the check funds into my bank account. When the funds became available next day, I informed her and she asked me to Zelle various people and email addresses specific amounts of money from the funds deposited. I asked her if this was a legitimate company and if I had been scammed about a job offer and she assured me that it was 100% legitimate; that I did not have to worry. One Zelle in the amount of $500 went through, but when I could not Zelle the others due to banking limits associated with Zelle I was asked to purchase two American Express gifts cards in the amount of $500 each. I was asked to then open the gift cards and send her pictures of the front and back of the gift cards. After doing so, I stated that this could not be legitimate. If I was sent funds that were to be used to purchase remote work equipment from the company's vendor, why would I be asked to buy gift cards. It makes no sense. I was asked to purchase more gift cards and told her no. I did not want to be a part of their illegitimacy. I reported the company to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov as well as reported them to the local authorities to start an investigation.
