Type of a scam Government Agency Imposter
This week the "SSN office" called me. Said my social security number had been used to open 50+ bank accounts, 10,000,000 in funds transfer, money laundering and drug trafficking. They said there was a warranty out for my arrest, and could face up to 20 years in prison if i did not cooperate in full. Needless to say i did. They keep me on the phone, asked me a bunch of questions and came to conclusion that i was not responsible for this, and if i cooperate could get off the charges. He proceeded to call the Dallas sheriff's office to let them know not to arrest me.
After this, the sheriff's office called me and said they would be by my house the next day to sort out some paperwork. They put me back onto the social office (keep in mind i'm on the phone the entire time). The social security transferred me to his boss (now at 3 people i've talked to). He said i needed to fill in an ie35 form to transfer my funds into a holding account for 24 hours. This way i could be issued a new social and new bank accounts once they had closed mine and it would help find the real criminal.
So i drive to the bank (still on phone). He then sent me a infographic and said clear out my accounts ($22,000) into the holding account. Whilst on the phone, i googled the address. It was an import/export warehouse in Houston, with a real website. This got me a little suspicious. Then we got disconnected, i knew he would call back immediately. Thinking quickly, i thought i need to verify this before i go wire him the money. I called the Dallas sheriff's office requesting to speak the the "officer Marshall" that id spoken to. The officer down there informed me there was no officer marshall. He also checked the database, and i was not even in there, let alone a warrant for my arrest.
I am not originally from the USA and didn't know the social office 't call you. And if it wasn't for the TWC scam (which they knew about) i might have picked it up sooner. I got lucky but i was extremely close to doing it. If he didn't get disconnected i probably would have done it.
