I was doing a records search on a family member who has dementia and doesn't know where certain documents are. The website offered a report (this was a "sponsored" site, so it appeared at the top of the search). The website/company indicated it had documents that met my criteria (person, state). However, once I paid, it turned out to be some kind of bait and switch operation and I was unable to get the information promised without paying additional funds. I immediately canceled and indicated my intent to report them to the BBB. This is what I sent them with my cancellation: "I did a search. Your site indicated if I paid for the unlimited search sample membership, that I could see the documents you found in that search. Yet, when I actually paid for the subscription, I had to re-do the search and not only did you not search by the criteria I entered, you changed the state that the records would have been in so, no documents were retrieved based on my criteria. What a crock. Then, you indicate that there are other records, somewhere, and ask for additional money to see them. Obviously, I didn't pay any more since you already scammed me out of 5.00 for nothing. I assure you, I don't appreciate being cheated by some fly-by-night group who scams people who are looking for a specific document in a specific state and then changes the criteria in the search. Why the heck would you do that? I knew where I wanted to search. That's the information I provided and you randomly change the state? If I had wanted to search in that state, don't you think that's the search I would have entered? I'm not going to chase additional records with good money after bad because you tempt me into following you down the next rabbit hole. Obviously. your service doesn't actually live up to your promises. Too bad you have to use dishonest means to scam people out of their money in order to profit. I might have actually continued your service if you had just provided the information that was promised in the free search. P.S. I've documented this communication and will report you for fraud if you fail to cancel my account as requested. You should be ashamed of yourselves."

A record research company services were purchased by me about 10 months ago, and I was continuously billed 14.95 monthly without notices of the upcoming billing. The manger it was their practice to not send such monthly notices and only yearly renewals. They had sent a total of 4 emails to me in three months and I kept being billed.

They refunded the money, and I told them I was going to report this activity to the ScamPulse.com and the Oklahoma State Attorney General office since this was their company policy not to give notification of an upcoming credit withdrawal to their customers.
