I purchased a car on September 5 from STG auto group in Montclair. My car broke down that day and since I work 2 jobs and my daughter has a series of appointments to test for autism within the next couple of week I was desperate. I was helped by a salesperson named Reynaldo Emerson. We just noticed on 9/13 upon looking at their board of their licensed salespeople Rey’s license was issued 9/7.

Anyways we told Reynaldo Emerson that we saw a car listed online that was within our price range $10,000. We are a very low income family and explained that we weren’t expecting anything new but something in good working order. He showed us the car said it was great and that it just needed to be serviced and would take a couple of days. There was no test drive.

We went in to sign the paperwork. He said he had another appointment and someone brought the paperwork for us to sign. The second salesman told me to sign on all the highlighted areas. I know it was a very stupid thing to do but I signed the contract without question.

I tried calling on 9/7 but finally got a call back on Friday 9/8. Rey told me that the car seat wouldn’t move and unfortunately the part that was needed to fix it wouldn’t be there till the following Monday.

I went on Monday 9/11 anxious to see what was happening with the car and spoke to the manager Joseph. Joseph took a look at what was going on with the vehicle and said there was nothing on file about a seat being broken. The reason that they hadn’t released to vehicle to us is because it was not passing a smog test. I asked if I can purchase a different vehicle because that worried me and also mentioned that his salesman just lied to us. He apologized for his salesman and said that the contract was iron tight and we that we we’re basically stuck with this car.

Finally the car passed the smog and I took it home Wednesday (9/13). They left the car running for me out in the parking lot and sent me on my way.

A few minutes after driving it I noticed I couldn’t get the AC to work, the seat buckle was broken, there was a crack in the windshield and the brakes squealed. I was running late for work so I sent Leo(the salesman that brought around the car for me) a text mentioning the window. I told him I could take it in Monday since I work all day Thursday and Friday. When I got home and took the key out of the ignition I noticed that the key fob was broken and being held together with tape.

Went home, got my things and headed to work I unlocked the car with the key itself since the fob didn’t work. The alarm starts going off but the buttons on the fob don’t work so I have to wait till the alarm stops on it’s own or I have to rush into the car to turn it on. I get a panic attack when I try to unlock the car.

9/14 thursday I decided to take my morning job off because of all the stress and anxiety this car and auto group has given me. I did not want to prolong this situation any longer. On the drive back to STG I noticed that the car shuddered when it was at a red light.

I walk into STG auto group and a sales rep asks if I need help. I said “yes I need help with the piece of crap you sold me.” Joseph(manager) was standing off to the side and says go to the service department. He did not look happy. Like he did his job took advantage of the dumb woman and then he was done. I tried to speak to him again and he cut me off with “go to the service department.”

The service department manager I’m told was off for two weeks. I spoke to an employee and listed all the things wrong and he said unfortunately all he could do was send an email asking if the repairs could be done and that’s it. I also showed him the key fob and told him about the alarm going off every time I try to unlock the car. He shrugged and said “that’s the way you bought it”

The mechanic ended up making a key fob. I picked up the car and took it for a safety inspection at a Chevy dealership 9/18 for a safety inspection. The inspection showed that I needed new brake fluid they also mentioned that they could not further look into the engine for the shuddering unless I agreed to the additional cost. I cannot afford that. I took my car back to STG on 9/25 to get the AC fixed. When I dropped it off I mentioned the brakes, the shuddering and the fact that it smells like car smoke. When I picked it up on 9/26 they said they brakes are fine that it squeals really bad because they’re new and dusty and that everything else looked fine.

I still have the car with the same problems. I don’t have the money to take it to the mechanic and STG auto will not help me. I’m in debt 20,000 with this car and I’m afraid that it will not last. They also weren’t forthcoming with the problems it had initially. In fact the sales rep lied about why it wasn’t released initially. They scammed me into getting this car off their hands.
