I received a phone call from this number advising I was being sued for a payday loan from 8 years ago. Because it was approaching the statute of limitations, they advised the lawsuit was being pursued and they were a 3rd party mediation service. They had record of my previous addresses and last 4 #'s of my social security number. They advised they were seeking $1,955.39 or I could settle without going to court. The settlement options were $203/month for 6 months or a 1 time settlement fee of $598. The man I spoke with seemed to be extremely knowledgeable of the legal process and how to file a "motion of discovery" so I could get details and documentation of the lawsuit. He advised they had all the pertinent information there and that I could obtain this by filing in the county the application started in. He then gave me the name of the previous city I lived in 2011, but not the county. Additionally, he advised they could not reach me at any new address and the debt collection agency was trying to serve me summons paperwork.
Outside of the legal options, he was fairly vague outside of stating it was a payday loan from 2011 for $500. He said they had a scanned drivers license from the state of Iowa, my social, employment verification, and the name of a checking account I haven't used since 2011. This was the first time being contacted by this company and I have no record of any court actions or attempts to collect a debt. He did provide a record number I could use to file with the county courts. Additionally, I never received funds for any payday loan at any point in my life, so I don't feel this solicitation was founded, outside of having some general details mostly based off where I live. The concerning pieces are accurately stating a bank I used to be a member with, a lawsuit number and the last 4 digits of my social security number.
I decided to call back and get more information about their company. The woman who answered the phone greeted me with "Hello, Management Services" and seemed less than helpful to provide additional details. She stated their company name is "Stonebrook Management" and that they are "currently" located in North Carolina. She also mentioned they have a corporate headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. That's all the information she could provide. The phone number I reached her at was 855-283-9972.
