Student Loan Center Reports & Reviews (11)

Got a message about my outstanding school loan balance. They claim to want to offer forgiveness of up to 85% of balance. I haven't had a loan balance since 2002.

- Coupeville, WA, USA

Voicemail transcript:

“Hi this is Paul Avery from student loan center. We wanted to remind you that your covid-19 emergency forbearance will be ending September 30, 2021. Be aware that your loans will resume automatically at the standard repayment rate. Our records indicate you are eligible for student loan forgiveness programs but never completed the required documents. If you want to proceed with the application we need to speak with you today at 866-299-3753 with your provided reference number 7929243.”

This the voicemail transcript left on my phone; I did respond to or contact them back. I believe this to be some type of scam as I know for a fact my loans are NOT eligible for forgiveness. I have never heard of “student loan center”, they are not one of my loan servicers.

- Huntsville, AL, USA

I got a call from someone claiming to be affiliated with the Department of Education calling in regard to a loan forgiveness application. They said they needed to hear from me by close of business or I would have to redo the application. I called them back and they told me that my current provider had dropped me and I needed to transfer my debt to keep my payments low and stop me from defaulting. Fortunately I called my real provider and confirmed it was a scam before I transferred any money. They almost got me to authorize a bogus transfer fee and monthly payments. Do not ever give out bank account information over the phone or fall for high pressure tactics.

I received a call on my cell phone from a number that was showing up as "unknown," however they were bold enough to leave me a VM with a name of "Holly Jones" saying she was calling from the "processing department" and that she was calling with "really great news that there have been significant changes to my federal student loan options" (I have no outstanding student loans) and to give her a call back at her direct number of 949-763-5395 (Orange County, CA area code) and a reference number for when I called. It was obviously not her direct number because I called back and a male answered and I asked the name of their organization and company and who they were trying to reach as I have no student loans and was hung up on. I called again, a female answered this time, got no answers, but was told I would taken off the call list and hung up on. I called a third time, got the same male I did earlier, said I've been hung up on twice, and I want to know the name of their company and why they are calling me when I have no student loans. He apologized (ironic as he's the one who first hung up on me) and gave me a very generic name like "Student Loan Servicing Center" or something similar to that, and that they receive the applications (??) and you know how college students handwriting is, can be hard to read so that's most likely why my phone number was called. Yeah, ok, doubt that one buddy! I told him to take me off of their call list and never call my number again, and that I used to work for the ScamPulse.com and would be reporting them.

Scammer asks if you're interested in a student loan relief. I asked what company she was from and then, asked her to remove me from her caller list. She hung up on me. SCAMMMM!!!!!!!! Beware.

The offered to help make my monthly loan payments lower than what they were currently. Actually seemed legit so I thought why not. Turns out I was wrong, they put my loan into forbearance with the original lender and then kept my "payments". Don't use this company.

They call using a modulator that changes ththe number each time they call so that it is impossible to block them. I finally answered and got an Indian woman and when began to tell her I wasnt interested in her scam, she kept cutting me off with her promotion. I cut her off and informed her what she was doing was illegal and to stop calling me and she hung up.

- Henrico, VA, USA

I have been receiving numerous calls from various numbers using my local area code. The person on the other end of the line claim to be with the Student Loan Center and want to help with lowering student loan debt. They want to ask you four basic questions. Do not answer them. It is a scam. They use a method called "spoofing" which makes the number appear to be local to try and gain your trust. You will not be able to successfully block the number, because they will change the number calling in every time. I am on the National Do Not Call List and it does not stop them from calling either. The best thing you can do is ignore the call.

I got a call this morning that left a recording asking me to call back. When I called back they said I owed for a student loan from years ago and if I paid $166.67 that day over the phone and then made 2 more payments of $166.67 that the amount would be paid in full. I thought I didn't owe for that loan anymore so I was questioning them a lot. They kept pressing me to make the payment. Unfortunately I did give them my social security number but not a card number. I told them I wanted to check this out with the BBB and he again kept pressing for payment. I told him I would call him back. I then called BBB who told me the information didn't check out and it sounded like a scam. When I call the original number back that called me the number is not good.

- Mantua, NJ, USA

Keep calling and saying that they can help get my student loans taken care of for a nominal fee of about $800

Scammer calls 4 times a day from a number generator. If I answer most of the time they hang up. They never leave a voicemail. When they talked to me yesterday they said they could help me with student loans and I asked them to take my number off the list and they hung up.
