Purchased puppy with "Hobby Breeders" online for $500 and $150 to transport with flying the puppy to us; they preferred money sent via Zelle, CashApp or Google Pay. We were unable to get money immediately from any of them as we were new customers and they needed 48 hours for security checks. The seller would not take credit cards or even PayPal but said they would accept Am Express prepaid gift cards and we were to send pics of the cards to the seller. We then got an email from  "US Pet Relocator Transport Co" stating they would need $1500 for a "thermal crate" for the puppy-of which $1470 would be refunded upon delivery of the puppy. The next morning-ironically they accepted Am Express gift cards or Zelle, even though their website said they accepted all forms of payment. When I called and questioned them they said they could not accept credit cards at the time due to "auditing". Before we moved forward, we sent a text to the seller and asked for a call and they said they were "working" and could call "later". I text and said things seemed rather fishy and that we hadn't been informed of the additional enormous crate fee and we were not happy about the additional fees for purchasing the gift cards. Their response was that they were "Christians...fully employed...try to have families experience the love of puppies...they sincerely apologize that it was not discussed earlier and you will be refunded upon delivery..." So we reluctantly got the gift cards and sent them to the "Transport Co".  We also thought at this point our puppy was halfway across the country and we wouldn't be able to get reimbursed from the seller and kind of had no choice. The next morning we got an email when the dog would be arriving, this included a tracking # and flight info for the puppy, etc. Then in the early afternoon, when the puppy should have already arrived, we received another email from the "Transport Co" that they would not release the puppy to us unless we paid $990 in gift cards (which would be refunded to us) for 8 shots (we had already been told by the seller the puppy was updated on her shots) and a city permit. I immediately called the seller and of course, no answer and no text response. Then called the "Transport Co" and told them I wanted a picture of our puppy at the airport and picture of the airport sent to me before I would send them anything, then told them to keep the puppy. We've not heard back from the "Transport Co" nor the seller. They apparently got what they wanted-I contacted Am Express to try to put a stop on the cards-all the cards had already been used the night before at an Apple Store and cosmetics store. We have involved our State Police and an investigation has already begun.
