A person impersonating Susan Cotter from LogRocket text me from +1 (703) 249-9231 describing a job opening. I had been submitting applications to several companies so I didn’t think much about it though I did think the text was weird. I figured they’re a tech company maybe they do things differently. ‘Susan’ sent me a link to Teams which is where the majority of the conversation was.. Told me a lot about the company. Provided a link to the company website and eventually sent interview questions via Teams chat. I Googled the company and Susan and it seemed legitimate. Though, ‘hiring process’ was moving quickly and differently than described on Glassdoor. It was via written communication primarily Teams and email after the initial text. Susan emailed me a job offer the next morning along with onboarding forms requesting my personal info and a copy of my license, which I ignorantly provided. The onboarding forms looked off, but it’s my understanding LogRocket is a start-up so I didn’t think much about it.

Edward Spreen the ‘Chief Operating Officer’ reached out about onboarding.. again smaller company didn’t think too much about it. He asked about the bank accounts I use and said they were going to send me a check to purchase my work equipment and I needed to send a confirmation of the mobile deposit. He then asked if I had some money for the equipment it would help and I’d get reimbursed when the check posted. That was the ultimate red flag and I tapped into my fraud training memory and noticed the emails did not match the Google results for contacting Logrocket (see below). I called LogRocket and they confirmed it is a scam. I blocked the individuals on Teams.
