I received a call this afternoon from a Canadian “company” called Bills & Raffle Taxes company.
The premise of this call was to inform me that because I paid all my monthly bills & my taxes on time, my name was pulled from a draw & I was the winner of 3.5 million dollars.
I was told 3 people, one being from the Better Business Bureau, would be coming to my residence within 2 hours to present said cheque & that I needed to provide them with my personal identification & a 3 word code that would be given to me.
The code words are:
VISA
GIFT
CARD
I was then advised that I would have to go to one of their sponsor stores, (Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart or Canadian Tire) and purchase a $400.00 gift card that would be fully refunded to me at a later time.
Throughout this call I kept asking how they came up with my name, asking about their company, asking numerous times if I had to buy something & was repeatedly told that no this is not a scam & that they were a private company.
As suspicious as I was, as soon as I heard that I had to pay for a gift card I told them off & hung up. They called me back 3 times to try to get me to continue with this scam, twice from a private number & once from the 1-876-316-1277 number.
