Type of a scam Phishing
As I walked through the registration it requested my social security number. As an employer, that's not an absurd request... but I tried to skip this as it was just an app and I didn't know much about it. It wouldn't let me skip entering my social security number, my name, my address, or my phone number. Again, there was a sense of security in that it would lead to employment and such information is NORMAL to exchange between an employer and an employee. I agreed and went to the next page....
As I filled it out, I found that before I could continue it mentioned that there would be a "background check". Again, I was undisturbed by such a request in the effort to find employment.... and I never would have thought much of it... but I know I have a right to see what they see during my background check and wished to recieve a copy for myself. I always like to ask. I tried to fool around with the page before proceeding on again to determine how to obtain a copy online... i clicked a tiny little "i" after the words 'background check' that is normally ignored because most people don't read the fine print hyperlink. The new page that popped up expressed that the "background check" that they had referred to earlier was NOT a background check AT ALL; it was a truth in lending consumer report for a credit pull and intent to share your personal credit information.
I was nervous. I assumed I must be reading this incorrectly... or maybe they are using people's credit history to determine what kind of employee they might be? I skimmed.... but at the time it didn't seem SO far fetched? And my ssn was the first page. I submitted it PAGES ago. Too late to untype now... but I hadn't finished registration so there was hope they didn't save it.
I never found the request for my copy of my background check and decided to try to see how far forward I could get before signing/submitting my registration. As I clicked through I saw that AFTER claiming they needed my SSN to do a background check in order to 'hire me',... that it clearly states they would NOT be hiring me at all. It is merely a site for third party tp help contractor's to find their own work; not sure why a 'background check" OR a 'credit pull' would be necessary for that at ALL. DEFINITELY started feeling like a SCAM or as if I just didn't know much about being self-employed? Still sketch.
I got to a page that said "last step!" and KNEW I had been had by the worst of the worst. They were requesting my credit card information to make a 'small purchase of $24 for processing' that they claimed I would "make back immediately".
I NEVER completed the registration. I was NOT going to PAY to be employed and I doubt it was ever about that at all anyways.... I tried to rescind any prior text I wrote but it won't dissappear. I am already recieveing text messages from the app that i never finished or submitted my registration for. I have gone back to the app to see if I could remove my information but it claims i havent submitted any/completed registration.
I went back to the Facebook link but my app refreshed and the video was gone.
I went to the website www.TaskRabbit.com and the logo is the same. I requested to have my information kept private and NOT shared using the link at the bottom of the page.... but it never asked me for my name... or ANY information about my account... i just clicked it and it began some sort of walkthrough to contact a bunch of companies without requiring ANY input from me... so I doubt it did ANYTHING. Any information they did get out of me without my consent (I did not finish registration and i was not allowed to be made aware of how my information would be used until AFTER I had already given it) and under false pretenses to begin with. I wish to rescind my consent but there seems to be no recourse to ensure that I KNOW that THEY know that. I am concerned about wary people desperate for employment looking for work and sharing such important information with a company that has NO intention of hiring them or finding them work, while also sharing it with others for their own profit.
I deleted the app. I have found several reviews on FB clearly showing that I am not the ONLY one to be had by the company. I am concerned for my credit and my privacy.
