TDD operator calls stating they are translating for a deaf person. Purported deaf person claims to have inherited a car from their recently deceased relative in another state (this case Florida). Deaf person states they will be returning soon to the local city where the repair shop is located (this case NY). Deaf persons requests to ship disabled car to repair shop. They offer a credit card for repair shop to bill out the shipping charges and pre-pay transporter company. Then they offer a second credit card to pre-pay the estimated costs of repairs promising to pick car up as soon as the vehicle is repaired.

Unwary shops will run both credit cards, then pre-pay the transporter. The car never arrives and the shop is charged back both charges, thus losing the several thousand in "transportation costs". Defense - never accept pre-payment for any services. Never pay a transport charge with your own money. If the customer can afford to pay you, they can afford to pay the transporter directly with the same credit card.
