Type of a scam Tech Support
•Tech Crew posted a "spoof" website and phone number for Norton Antivirus. We contacted the site and phone number via the Bing internet search engine on 12/17/2015.
•Tech Crew notified us that our router has a worm originating from Belarus, Russia. Tech Crew told us that the worm has been in place since 2009.
•Tech Crew offered to clean the router and remove the worm immediately for a fee of ~$700 for lifetime cleaning services. Tech Crew solicited personal information (usernames, passwords) for Norton Antivirus to complete the process.
•Upon "completion" of worm cleaning services, Tech Crew requested bank routing information to access our bank account to receive payment for services. We denied any bank information to Tech Crew.
•Tech Crew frequently calls the personal residence to request that a personal check be sent to Tech Crew for approximately $700 in "Lifetime router worm cleaning services" that are fraudulent. Tech Crew calls the house multiple times daily, every day of the week, including Sundays requesting payment.
NOTE: Our router supplier (Comcast) was notified of the above. We were told that it is virtually impossible for a worm to reside on our router, and that this was a scam, and that we are not to send them any money.
