Last evening I was attempting to use the Trivago site to look for a hotel room when my screen was taken over by an alert containing a symbol that looked like the Windows symbol, stating to call 888-549-8499 immediately. We were very skeptical, but after much deliberation called the number. The "technician" had a foreign accent and we kept asking for how we could be assured he was with Microsoft and he repeatedly implied this. He told us our Microsoft security had expired because of the age of our lap top. We paid $499 for a lifetime guarantee. They took control of our computer and supposedly fixed our problem.
