Tech Support Scam - Youtube Impostor Reports & Reviews (1)

- Upper Marlboro, MD, USA

I used google to find a customer service phone number for YouTubeTV. Found 1-888-769-1676 and proceeded to call. The search said it was a "verified account." A woman answered and said she was YouTubeTV Customer Service. She had an accent. She said she needed to confirm my account and asked for my name and the email address that I use for the account. I provided both. She then asked me to confirm the last 4 digits of the card I use for my subscription. I told her I didn't have that info with me (so did not provide). She said okay and moved on (first red flag). Then, I explained about my tv glitching at the end of the Celtics/Heat game last night and that I had tried several avenues to report it - which all appeared unsuccessful. I wanted to know if the game would be restreamed or if we would receive a credit. She put me on hold. When she returned, she said I would get both a credit and that the game would be restreamed (second red flag). She said I needed to provide a confirmation code that would be coming to my email. I told her that nothing had come into my inbox. She then told me to go to my App Store, click on my photo, and then click on send a gift card/code. I asked her why I would generate a gift card?!?? That didn't make any sense. She said she just needed the code and that I should put in my own email address, so I knew that it wasn't being sent anywhere. I hung up. It was clearly fraud! When I ran another google search, it led me here - where I see others who have had the same scam run on them but from different numbers.
