My husband was using Microsoft Edge and accessed a Remax page through a link. Immediately the internet page warned that the page was not safe and that our pc was exposed to a trojan. There was also a pop up page that had a 1-800 number to call to fix the problem. The page would not go away, the tab would not close and using control, alt, delete to end the task did not work. I called the 1-800 number. The person on the line sounded a lot like a robot to me so I hung up. Immediately we were called back so someone was monitoring the line. There was a lot of noise in the background. I argued with this person a long time because they wanted money to fix the problem and 'coincidentally' their prices were identical to the Microsoft price to clean the PC.

My husband was on the phone to tech support - Microsoft Canada which is located in the Philippines.(??) and they told us to turn off the PC and shut down the session with the scammer. When I did this they called us back and my husband told him we knew it was a scam. The person Roy said it was not and they were legitimate. In any case the keystrokes the 'scammer' and microsoft did were identical. Microsoft could not find a virus but they could not rid the warning or the close the tab in Edge so they reloaded Win10. Total time about 6hours. Total cost 100$

I checked my credit card quite a few times and it was not compromised. I use a card with a low limit for internet use only. The scammers also seemed interested in knowing if we were a home or a business.
