Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received a text message on my phone and the website supposedly from Kroger/Bakers looked very legit. I never give out my social security number or birthday through a text message or over the phone to unknown sources or entities. The same day the application was sent to my phone I went up to Bakers to get further details regarding the text message sent. I asked to speak to a manager and he immediately within approximately fifteen seconds or less he said to me that this was not their website. He asked if he could get pictures of what was sent to my phone via text message and stated that he was going to turn it over to the police department for investigation. A few weeks or so later I received in the mail a check for $1,320.00. I went to my bank and two credit unions and showed them the check and each company representative said that it was fraud, and they were very familiar with this type of fraudulent activity. I followed up with the manager I had originally spoken too and showed him the check and he stated that the information I had given him he reported to the police and for me to provide the check and the instruction letter to the police department as well. I went downtown to the Police department and they had just closed. Thankfully an offer was leaving, and I explained my situation, and he gave me the telephone number to call in order to report fraud.
