Type of a scam Government Agency Imposter
Reviews on Google can be phony since they are not questioned. I don’t trust them, but if you check out the ScamPulse.com reviews, you can read what the Texas SBA® is doing to people. On the BBB, the Texas SBA® were never rated above one star and has a ScamPulse.com business rating of F. I gave them one star only because the ScamPulse.com review page wouldn’t allow me to give zero stars or negative numbers.
HOW THE SCAM WORKS: You go to their website, which has an “Application For Minority Owned Business Certification”. You fill out a short questionnaire about your company and pay them $595.00. They hope you don’t know this is a free service from the Government. I never filled out an MBE application before, so I didn’t know.
Hidden in the “Terms and Conditions”, is a statement that says the money is non-refundable. I started to collect the required documents and quickly discovered what they were up to. I contacted them via email requesting a refund, and they responded with an email which said, in summary, no refunds, and they will sue me personally if I attempt to file a chargeback on my credit card. They also said they will put our company “… on the Texas SBA® Banned Companies List prohibiting your company from future commercial engagement with our agency for all government agencies and companies to verify.” They have nothing to do with HUD or any government agencies. It is a lie. They were simply trying to intimidate me into giving up.
They also threatened to sue me and the company for “Breach of Contract” which they cannot do. In order for a contract to be legal it must have valuable consideration . That means one party to the agreement provides something in return to the other. For example, I will sell you something if you give me money. In the case of Texas SBA®, they don’t have an enforceable contract because I gave them money and they did nothing in return, certainly nothing of value. Obviously, they are hoping I will walk away and let them keep the money, which I will not do. At the time, they charged me $495.00 for their lack of service. I noticed they now charge $595.00. $495.00 is certainly not enough to make the trouble worth it, but it is not about the money. It is about doing what is right.
