I unfortunately responded to a wrong # text message from 2135565771 yesterday. Not long after I received same type of text from this #. Unclear at this time if any of my personal or financial information has been compromised.

I received a fake text message from someone claiming to have selected my resumé for a work from home position within a company called Esteve Pharmaceuticals. They told me the pay was $35.00/hour. Major red flag. They also told me they were hiring for multiple different positions and asked me which position I wanted to accept. Another red flag. Strike three came in the form of them telling me to get on Telegram for an interview. I've been a little further down that Telegram rabbit hole, so I deleted and blocked the sender immediately.

Scammer's phone(801) 228-0619 Scammer's website Microsoft Teams Scammer's emailB******w*******@emddgroup.com Victim LocationSC 29588, USA Total money lost$4,950 Type of a scamEmployment
I was contacted by the scammer by text, who posed as an employee with an offer for a work from home data entry position and told to contact the HR manager on Microsoft Teams. They referenced getting my resume approved on CareerBuilder. Chatted on Teams and answered questions. Individual gained my trust by offering $35/hr pay and $15/hr for training. Said I would need to purchase software/equipment but they would send me a check for the amount. Sent it by email and told to print the checks and mobile deposit so I could send money to the vendors. I followed blindly and did what I was told. It seemed just slightly off but the scammer had a response for any concerns of questioning what I was doing. They tell you to try Venmo or Apple Pay or Zelle so it comes directly out of your account and you can’t get the money back. Once they’ve gained your trust they convince you that your materials are on the way and training would begin once they arrive. I realized after the second check that something was off. When I went to my bank to report it, they said it was my fault because I made the transactions myself. It wasn’t a breach of my account. So I now owe the stolen money I sent out myself. What I found strange though is that even though these checks were not valid, the bank cleared them really quickly. I think both were released within 48 hours. The bank didn’t hold and verify the checks as they should have, The contact person also was very direct and demanding of making the payments. Keep an eye on the email addresses. The emails were not company related either. They were Gmail accounts, not an organization except my main contact person. His was a company email and then I didn’t notice the others.

I get multiple text each day trying to get me to click on their link. I know it is coming from the Philippines. I got a call once from Direct TV and the man told me to go (redacted). When I called back the 1-800 number the lady that answered said she was in the Philippines but would not let me talk to a supervisor. This last text read: Dear user, Your phone is getting too many spam messages. Clear them now here. oc20j.com/Pcldbw3zal
