Scammer's website www.thefederalbenefitsgroup.com
Scammer's address 5036 Dixie Hwy #300164, Drayton Plns, MI 48330, USA
Type of a scam Phishing
Envelope had the address 5036 Dixie Hwy #300164 Waterford, MI 48330. A google search brought up 1) the fact that the address is just a PO Box at the postal office and 2) "The Federal Benefits Group" website at https://www.thefederalbenefitsgroup.com/ At the bottom of their page they say the are a BBB Accredited Business. But a quick search on the BBB site shows no such group and no such address, so pretty sure that's a fake icon.
The letter inside calls itself a "Federal Employee's Benefit Notice" and purports to allow one to "gain the most from your government retirement" It then asks for a bunch of personal information like date of birth, Agency employment dates, etc. It also includes a copy of a SAMPLE application for retirement form.
The return envelope sends the mail not to MI where the Federal Benefits Group supposedly works out of the Post Office PO Box, but to a DIFFERENT PO Box in Oldsmar FL. That address - PO Box 1689 - is associated with Rick Broom of Resource Solutions, a direct marketing company.
This letter is especially infuriating when so many federal employees are without paychecks right now and might be tempted by an offer that looks to improve their financial situation.
