I responded to a job post on the linkedin.com job board. I then received an email stating that I was being considered and that I needed to answer a few questions to confirm my proficiency for the job. I answered them and later received another email stating that they were happy to offer me a position. They asked me to sign a contract of employment that looked and read as legitimate. After which, I was told that I would be receiving money to purchase office equipment and I was not able to use my personal equipment for employment purposes. They would give me money to purchase office supplies from an approved supplier. This started me thinking there was an issue. The email stated that the hiring process was done through email because that is the way they communicated with their clients and it was judge how I communicated and how professionally I wrote. Then I was to speak to my supervisor only through text messages and that that would eb the primary form of communication. I have not spoken to anyone on the phone at this point. The supervisor gave me information and gave me vague answers to my questions. Then told me that the finance department has approved a check and it would be an electronic check. They would send the check through email. I was to print out the check and then do a mobile deposit into my bank account. When asked if they can send an paper check, he said it was not possible since this was a remote position. He gave me an alterative to bring the picture of the check up on my pc screen and then use my screen instead of printing it for mobile deposit or go to a public library to print it out. After which, I asked him to just send it though email. After receiving the email, I proceeded to call the bank that was on the check. After some hassle trying to verify the check with the bank, I asked the representative if the routing number on the check was one of their routing numbers. He confirmed that it was not. I then noticed that the check number seemed off and it did not match the number that was printed on the bottom line that would normally be read by the teller's computer when depositing in person. At this point, I stopped communicating with the scammer and froze my credit accounts since they have a picture of my driver's license.
