Type of a scam Debt Collections

First, these people called me and told me they were debt collectors and I owed over $1700 from an old Wachovia bank account that I had back in 2009 or so. The told me if I didn't resolve it that my credit would be hurt very badly and I wouldn't be able to open another bank account in the future until it was resolved. And of course, they would take legal action against me if it came to that. I knew right away something wasn't right, but played along for a while just to see what they would say. I asked for proof of everything and they said there was no time, it must be resolved now. So I said let me call my bank and get some money moved around and I'll call you back. Not to mention, they had already came down from what I originally owed to like a one-time payment of $700. LOL. So I did call my bank, but not to get money. I bank at Wells Fargo, who just so happens to be the bank that bought out Wachovia, and they had no record of me owing any money. I've had an account there for years now, and they said they would have never opened my account if I owed even $50.00.

Then, I received a letter in the mail just the other day, from the same people, saying the same thing. It's a scam for sure folks! I've gotta good mind to send them the $1700 in a sealed envelop, but with Monopoly money from the board game. See if that will satisfy my debt.
