Theanimesupply.com Reports & Reviews (1)

I searched online for a source from which to purchase an anime figurine as a gift for my brother. I found theanimesupply.com listed prominently among the search results and the website is well curated with many details, although in hindsight there are several red flags that require significant verification efforts in order to uncover the lengths this entity has gone to deceive people. The website offers free shipping within 2-5 weeks, and provides a phone number & email address to contact with questions/concerns. Crucially, I noticed after the fact that the payment confirmation omits sales tax, which is a huge indicator that the sale is illegitimate and the vendor is fraudulent. The phone number listed doesn't work, and after researching I've found that the area code is not in use in the United States -- they even stipulate on the website that if the phone is 'turned off' (what business in the world turns off a phone??) people should use the email address. I reached out a week or so after the indicated delivery date lapsed, asking for the shipper name & tracking number. The person who replied evaded the request multiple times and told me to allow 5-11 weeks for delivery, and to wait. After discussing the issue with my bank, I learned that 90 days is a common threshold after which claims of fraud are typically disregarded. With all of the context I've gathered post facto, it is my distinct impression that every facet of this operation is meticulously designed to deceive innocent/naive shoppers and leave them with no viable recourse to reverse the cost. My only saving grace is that I had the foresight to pay with an Amex rather than debit card, and my bank has temporarily reversed the charges pending their independent investigation. Subsequent to that action I received an email, supposedly from Liam Duncan ("Sales Representative" for the company), threatening a police investigation aimed at the name, phone number, and delivery address indicated in my order. Therefore, as if deceiving me & attempting to steal $300 wasn't nefarious enough, the perpetrators of this scheme have attempted to intimidate me with threatened legal action. This outfit is absolutely predatory and apparently poised to defraud many members of the U.S. consumer market due to their prominent ranking among Google search results for this type of commodity.
