I chose Chariot for my move because they offered a lower quote than my usual movers and promised no extra fees (minus a gas fee) for weekends, stairs, or services. However, I felt misled from the start when I was quoted more than what was advertised on their website. They claimed their site hadn't been updated yet, but it was still seemingly more affordable, so I proceeded. On moving day, just loading my one-bedroom took nearly 7.5 hours with three movers, despite moving just a block away within the same complex. I recognize that it was a long walk from my unit to the truck, but I noticed several times one of the movers repeatedly on his phone (watching something not talking on it) and walking nonchalantly to my apartment after loading items into the truck. Another time I found one of my smaller items lying in the garage exit. Though they announced their breaks usually, I could smell cigarette smoke after other unmentioned breaks, and the job dragged on unnecessarily long. In the end, it was a 9 hour move, but we negotiated because of all of the breaks. However, I was hit with an unexpected overtime charge that they claim was in the contract but actually was not. A full hour of OT would be almost $70/hr more than the normal rate. They take advantage when you are the most vulnerable --at the end of the move when you just want the project to be over and done with, especially after dragging it out for 9 hours.
