I was in the process of relocating to the state of Indiana. I came across The Coil with great reviews in a great location. I originally spoke with Alysia. There was an initial warmth, kindness and persistence in following up and providing information about the property. I was left with unease with the last conversation over the phone on October 9, 2024 at 12:14PM PST. It's hard to make long term decisions such as signing a leasing agreement without ever visiting the property. I feel there was misrepresentation of the information that was presented to me. I found another property that was more convenient so I expressed no longer being interested in renting.
It was my understanding the application was going to be used to verify my approval for residency. Never was it explained by Alysia that it was already the leasing agreement I was signing. She was rushing me to complete before a deadline on the same day, and had me initial all documents, one including agreeing to a binding lease agreement. I consider this a bait and switch. I live in a different timezone, I have never visited The Coil, I have never met with anyone in-person, I was simply quoted the estimate of the size in comparison to another unit.
In addition, I was not formally notified of my application approval, I did not receive a welcome letter and I will not even be in the state upon the start of the lease which means I will not receive my keys to the property on the start of the lease. After discussing my plans on withdrawing interest in the property, I was told that Landlord is The Connor Group Management and has jurisdiction over the leasing agreement to null and void. When contacting the Connor Group, I was told that these decisions are only made at the property level, and that I would have to speak with someone at The Coil. There is a disconnect with that. The warmth and kindness had long been gone after expressing myself concerns. It is now October 18, 2024. They never received a verification of residency from my current landlord, yet they still sent a 'welcome letter' today.
This apartment complex needs to more transparent with prospective tenants, instead of insisting to submit " leasing documents" before a deadline. It does not feel right being taken advantage of when I am not even living in the state yet. They have all my information on the leasing application, such as SSN, offer letter, emergency contacts, debit card information. Although I lost $499, that is still money I could've used for my groceries and other bills I struggle to pay. These people have done this to others based off their Google reviews.
