I was researching a book marketing service and found "The Native Publishers" though a Google search. A "Sales and Marketing Director" - Calvin Scofield - reached out to me within 5 minutes of visiting the site. I was sent a very attractive proposal and a non-disclosure agreement. I din not sign either; the deal seemed too god to be true. So, I decided to do more research on the company. Almost all of their online "reviews" are identical and appear to have been written by AI. I saw that they have a San Francisco address, and I live 45 minutes from the office, so I called their "Headquarters" and spoke with a gentleman who told me it would be fine to visit, but I should speak with Calvin Scofield first. I did not speak with Calvin first. Instead, I drove 45 minutes into San Francisco, walked into the building, and discovered that the entire floor that this business is meant to be working from has been vacant for three years. Building security assured me that no-such company was listed as a tenant. I called the office again and they said to please wait in the lobby and someone would come down and meet me. That obviously did not happen. I was immediately called by Calvin and told that their service was virtual and their offices were all over the country and that if I was concerned about money, I could sign the contract and only pay once my book was making sales. I declined and asked them not to contact me again.
