The Nomadik owned by Patrick Hines, is a complete scam with multiple fraud victims. It is a monthly subscription box for outdoor/hiking gear. We are a headwear brand that was featured in their box. We sent them 3,025 hats at a heavy discount (over 75% off since they made such a bulk order) which came out to $25,712.50. We gave them Net 90 check terms which was already a stretch. We sent The Nomadik our hats in May 2023 making the invoice due in August 2023. We give people a bit of a break if they are a late and start sending reminders when they are 15+ days late. We set him reminders and he would always respond, but with an excuse – either he was going into a meeting, his accounting team was out of office, etc. Finally, after a few months, we asked him if he was going through financial problems and that we would be happy to do a payment plan so that he didn’t have pay us $25k at one time. We were very reasonable. We agreed that in December he would start paying us monthly $5k at a time until the balance was paid off. He agreed to it and then when the first payment was due, he would have the same excuses again. He always said there were accounting meetings he had to go to to authorize the payments. He would say, please give us another month. By April 2024 we were done hearing the same story and we sent him to collections. He made one payment for $2,000 in June 2024 and that was it. Our collections agency could get nothing else from him. (Also – in our collections portal, we could look at his collections report and another retail company had sent him to collections for $25,000 as well). In September 2024 our collections agency asked if we wanted to take this to court (if paid, collections would take 40%). We said we were not interested.
Because we knew this was still going on (we know other brands in the industry that Nomadik had also not paid) and The Nomadik was still in business, we reached out to all the current brands that are in the Nomadik subscription box and told them to not send anymore product to them because they would not get paid for it. We talked to a couple of the brands and one of them said they already sent over $100K of product to Nomadik and if they do not get paid for this, this will ruin their company. Absolutely heartbreaking. Somehow word got back to Patrick Hines, and he reached out to our collection agency telling them to tell us to stop. He said he would pay us back with a new payment plan, starting at $1,000 a month and doubling each month, with the last payment being around $7k. We told him to switch the plan, starting with paying us $7k the first month and then decreasing each month until it was paid off. We knew the same thing would happen again probably – we’d get a one-time $1,000 payment and then never hear from him (Patrick), so we wanted more upfront. He was appalled. He said how unfair that was and that he couldn’t pay us $7k with such short notice. Then he said if we don’t stop contacting other brands and telling them his business is a scam, that he would allocate money to other people he owes and not pay us. He said we should accept the payment plan today and he would pay us if we stopped reaching out to others and warning them. We are not letting him tell us what to do! At this time, the invoice is 440 days overdue so that money is gone to us. We have accepted that he is not going to pay us, so now our goal is to help other businesses and take this company down. Luckily we could recover from this loss, but he is now going to smaller businesses who will get crushed if they are not paid. We are not okay with that. We are also reporting him to the federal trade commission.
There is a Reddit page telling people to not subscribe to The Nomadik box. They said they canceled the box and were either ignored, or their card would continue to be charged after they canceled their subscription. There is also another brand that commented that they were not paid: https://www.reddit.com/r/CampingandHiking/comments/16891za/warning_about_nomadik...⇄ /> What makes this even worse is that he bought a home in San Diego for $800k in January 2024. He also has 2 court cases against him for breach of contract with 2 loan companies:
Avion Funding V. The Nomadik Company, Patrick Alexander Hines
Square Funding Cali LLC V The Nomadik Company
