Thomas Leach Reports & Reviews (4)

We are a funeral home. We were contacted by a man who called himself John Thomas, using the email: [email protected]. He wanted us to do a service for his father, Edward Anthony Quinn. The service was arranged and was paid for in full with a credit card. The service included a band that was to play at the service called Heavenly Sound Band and the contact was Timmy Reyes : [email protected]. This band required that a payment of $6,500.00 be wired to South Trust Bank, NA to Maricella Gonzalez in San Antonio, TX. We refused to do this. However since the service was paid in full, we sent a cashier's check to an address in Somerset, TX. John Thomas kept delaying the service. He then started adding things to the service and wanted more funds wired which we did not do. He then said he had a co-worker who wanted to arrange the same service for his mother using the same band. He told us that he was having trouble cashing the cashier's check and wanted us to wire again. This time to Chase Bank to Breyon Burries in Newark NJ. By this time, the real owner of the credit card that was used to pay for the service had filed fraudulent charges and we now have a hold on our merchant account. We've put a stop payment on the cashier's check since it has never been cashed. Hopefully the funds will be returned to our bank. He continues to contact us about paying the band and arranging a service. We have stopped engaging.

Web Designer here. They asked if we accept credit cards, I told them no because I have received lots of scam requests like this before.

This is the third request for placing an order I have received that is in this form: wanting to use credit card and using a "freight forwarder" to pick up the product. I am not sure exactly how the scam works, but there is no way this guy wants to buy MITTENS for a store in Belize.

I'm a US Citizen and i want to Place an Order as a Retailer for my store in Belize, do you accept credit card for payment and freight forwarder for pick up.

Same email address this time with the web designer angle and his business is "John's Automotive". Submitted via a form on my web development website. I have run into these in the past where they want to pay via a stolen credit card with promises of a huge, really over the top payment for your services. As they are willing to pay you more money in order to pay their "Private Consultant" "Graphic Designer" "Freight Forwarding Company" with your own bank account. Ultimately the card is reported stolen and/or the charge is reverse and you are out of the money you sent with your own bank account to the "3rd party".

I have never had one go all the way to the end for me to loose money but the first time I received on was by text saying she was referred by one of my clients and I even called the lady who spoke broken English trying to convince me when I asked who the client was she said "everyone recommends you" and that she is very wealthy but her "private consultant" has her logo and doesn't take credit cards. That first one I received really got my hopes up of a decent retainer and viable and legitimate work that took several hours of my time, which to many of us "stolen time" is the same as "stolen money".
