My bank notified me via email about a hard inquiry to the credit agency Equifax. They said in the email that kind of inquiry is usually related to an application for credit, a loan, etc. Since I knew nothing about it, I called **** ****** *****, my bank to warn them that I had not authorize it and asked for help. Part of the email included the name of the entity that requested my information to approve the request for credit. That business was Thrift Investment Corp, from Fords, NJ. Not far from where I own a house in ***** *****, NJ. I did not know about them, never did business with them. I called them and spoke to a gentleman from Credit Department named Chris, who asked me if my name was ***** *********, born 1n 2004, with last four digits of social security ****. My name is **** *********, I am ** years old and my social security number does not end with ****. However, he said that instead of checking the record of the person who supposedly applied for credit, the credit agency picked my information and, consequently reached out to my financial institution. My credit score was reduced immediately 6 points. I just can not believe that is true. If I did not have the protection I have to guard my information, I believe things could have been much worse.
