Total money lost $8,200
Type of a scam Employment
I applied to do Mystery Shopping thru SurveyMonkey and was contacted with my first assignment. I am sharing this because I am so embarrassed that I got caught and want to help others!
It seemed legit...I'd get a cashiers check (the first one was $2950) and they said the company was Morris Survey Groups. I was under huge duress due to some personal issues and wasn't thinking straight so I fell for this and got caught. I did it 2 times (second check was for $4950 and I even had to spend extra money-which they promised to make good on and pay me for my trouble) and lost $8200!
I was stupid and purchased over 2 days a total of 6 iphones and 8 gift cards. Yep that stupid! I charged them to my credit cards and overnighted them to an address in Baltimore, MD. tons of red flags that I didn't notice
The checks were ficticious and the funds taken from my account causing huge overdrafts! They of course would not answer my calls, but my husband called from a different area code and they answered asking if he wanted to be a mystery shopper.
Then, I got a 3rd fedex wanting me to buy Bitcoins! By then I was super smart and said no, but we looked at the company address on the letter and it seemed to be legit (but it does mention "Sights on Service Inc" which I don't think are them...
So, I called the new number telling the guy who answered that someone might be trying to use his company's name and he seemed shocked and said that he'd help me...BUT, it was the same guy..same name (James) and same voice... he is a liar and a theif and I want someone to catch them and shut them down. Of course I want my money back but am not holding my breath. Can't believe I fell for this for a few hundred dollars!
