An email was sent by “Susan Hartley” to a local church asking if anyone would like to inherit a mostly new baby grand piano. The email was sent to the choir and I picked it up. It seemed almost too good to be true- I got photos of the piano and because it came through the church I thought maybe it was a member of the church- then it got weird. The website did not have enough details, “Susan” was spotty on communication & the payment was to be sent to their “broker” at a different email. Thankfully I didnt submit any payment but absolutely terrible that these type of people are out there trying to take advantage of musicians who already struggle financially.
The scammer emailed Victory Charter School as a widow offering to donate a grand piano. The widow sent pictures of the piano and information that seemed legitimate. However, she said we could only use her moving company -- that she already had the piano in storage and we'd need to use her account number. I emailed the moving company and they did not list a phone number or address. They asked for money to be sent in the form of Zelle, Bitcoin payment, or Bank Cash Deposit/Wire Transfer. As a school we're not allowed to do this and offered a check -- along with other government documents necessary for a donation. Firmly we were told they would only accept these payments. As we researched the moving company, we couldn't find any information online and recognized that it was an elaborate scam.

Someone supposedly named Susan Hartley just approached my son’s music school (Lake Norman School of Music) with the exact same line…and same moving company. I reached out to her but something felt off so I began to do some research and found this review. I also looked at titancouries.co website and there were sections of the site that were suspicious and incomplete. I’m quite certain that this is a scam.
