I then contacted Walmart corporate to see if [email protected] was ligitiment. They informed me that all their emails contain a trademark or logos and they don't even solicit for mystery shoppers. I forwarded my phishing email to Walmert to make them aware that this scam was using their name and being fraudulent.
I continued to receive the same phishing email for several weeks, then another indivual starting sending them. I deleted those.
It wasn't until I returned from being out of the country that I heard from anyone; but this time, it was via cell text. Tom John +1 (563) 794-7366 introduced himself as the mystery shopper manager and that my first assignment had been delivered to my doorstep by usps. He also asked if I'd completed my first assignment. Sat, Sep 19 @ 7:32pm.
On Mon, Sep 21 @ 5:32pm I received another text accusing me of "running away with company funds." They went on to text "We have all your info with us and will be forwarding the info to the FBI and they will be visiting you soon."
I replied that I'd been out of the country and just returned. I did not open the usps priority mail envelope. I also replied I did not wish to participate with a company disguised as Walmart. I texted them I didn't appreciate being threatened with the FBI. I texted to remove my contact information on Mon, Sep 21 @ 9:21pm
Mon, Sep 21 @ 9:40pm they replied "there's no way to send it back, you can just complete your first assignment and quit after then..."
Yesterday, Sep 22 @ 4:23pm I returned the usps priority mail envelope to my local post office explaining the circumstances. The manager understood and returned it "Refusal to Accept." He advised me not to worry with it any further.
